On October 26, Xu Pao, Director of FFRC, participated in the 2021 China-Laos Lancang-Mekong Synchronous Proliferation and Releasing & Joint Law Enforcement Activities. The event was co-sponsored by the Yangtze River Basin Fishery Administration Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Freshwater Fisheries Research Center, Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Yunnan Province, Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Nanta Province, Laos, and Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture People’s Government. Ma Yi, Director of the Yangtze River Basin Fishery Administration Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, attended the event and delivered a speech.
A total of 254,000 fry were released, including 154,000 in the main stream of Lancang River in China and 100,000 in Nanta Province, Laos. The event destroyed 20 sets of illegal fishing gears and nearly 100 nets. The event was the seventh consecutive year that China and Laos jointly carried out fisheries law enforcement and aquatic life proliferation and releasing activities in the waters of Lancang-Mekong River, a total of 4,931,000 fish fry were released, making a positive contribution to the conservation of aquatic life resources and sustainable development of fisheries in the Lancang-Mekong River basin.
