Recently, Jiangsu Provincial Federation of Trade Unions held a press conference on May Day, introducing the selection and recognition of 2022 National and Jiangsu May Day Labor Awards and Medals. Researcher Xu Dongpo, Chief of the Dept. of Aquatic Biological Resources of FFRC, won the 2022 Jiangsu May Day Labor Award.
Researcher Xu Dongpo has been engaged in research on the protection and utilization of fishery resources for a long time. His research results have won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, the first prize of Jiangsu Province Science and Technology Progress Award, and the first prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award. He has published 20 academic papers. He has authored 3 national invention patents and 4 utility model patents, and participated in the compilation of 3 monographs. As a doctoral supervisor of Nanjing Agricultural University, Shanghai Ocean University, and FAO open water fishery consultant, he has trained 21 master and doctoral students at home and abroad. He also completed international foreign aid training missions on open water ecological fisheries and fishery resource protection in many countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
In recent years, he has been actively committed to providing scientific and technological support for the “Great Protection of the Yangtze River”, leading the team to carry out the first census of aquatic wildlife resources in Jiangsu Province, initially establishing the aquatic biological germplasm resource bank in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and preserving 36 species of living resources such as Coilia nasus and Liobagrus styani Regan. He also led his team to carry out the first research and demonstration work of fish habitat reconstruction in Rugao section of the Yangtze River, and carried out work on water purification fisheries, artificial fish nests and ecological floating beds, etc. in Taihu Lake and Dianshan Lake.
It is reported that a total of 255 people won the “2022 Jiangsu May Day Labor Medal”.
