Researcher Zhu Jian Attended the Eleventh Session of the COFI Sub-Committee on Aquaculture

The eleventh session of the COFI (Committee on Fisheries) Sub-Committee on Aquaculture was held in Rome, Italy from May 24-27, 2022. The meeting was held online at the same time. The meeting was attended by 94 FAO Members, observers from 11 IGOs and 2 International NGOs. The Chinese delegation consisted of 11 representatives from the Bureau of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the representative office of China to the United Nations, the National Fisheries Technology Extension Center, the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences and Shanghai Ocean University attended the meeting. Zhu Jian from FFRC attended the meeting as a representative of the member states.

Mr. Belemane Semoli from South Africa chaired the eleventh session of the Sub-Committee on Aquaculture and presided over the meeting. FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu and Mexican Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Agencies in Rome, Miguel Garcia Winder delivered welcome remarks.

Zhao Liling, the Second-level Inspector of the Bureau of Fisheries, MARA, spoke on behalf of the member states. Hu Honglang, Deputy Director of the National Fisheries Technology Extension Center, and Li Jiale, Vice Dean of Shanghai Ocean University, spoke on related topics. Representatives focused on the “Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture(GSA)”, the “Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries(CCRF)”, “Building Resilience of Aquaculture to Ensure Food Security, Nutrition and Livelihoods”, and related matters of the Global Conference on  Aquaculture Millennium +20. During the discussion, China expressed its willingness to actively share its experience in the transformation and development of aquaculture with all member states, promote mature technology models such as integrated rice-fish farming and pond ecological aquaculture, and jointly improve the sustainable development level of global aquaculture, so as to contribute more to ensure the effective supply of global aquatic products.
