On July 18, the seventh page of “Xinhua Daily” was titled “Fish chasers in the Yangtze River”, and the full-page reported on the fishery resources monitoring work in the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River carried out by the resource team of the Freshwater Fisheries Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences. According to the report, the resource team members of FFRC carried out early fish resource monitoring in the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River against the wind and rain. Using the combined technology of morphological identification and molecular identification, the species composition and population changes of fish eggs, larvae and juveniles in the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River were grasped, and the mechanism of early fish resource generation was explored. The resource team used a set of data to demonstrate the significance and effect of the “Yangtze River fishing ban” and the “Great protection of the Yangtze River”.
In December 2020, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs established the Yangtze River Basin Aquatic Biological Resources Monitoring Center. The Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences took the lead in establishing the Yangtze River Basin Aquatic Biological Resources Monitoring System, the Freshwater Fisheries Research Center was specifically responsible for the monitoring tasks in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. With the support of the Yangtze River Fisheries Administration, MARA and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Jiangsu Province, the resource team of FFRC took the lead in setting up a monitoring fleet in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and carried out systematic monitoring of aquatic biological resources from Poyang Lake, the Yangtze River estuary section to the Yangtze River estuary , which strongly supports the evaluation of the biological integrity of the Yangtze River and the evaluation of the effect of the fishing ban.
On January 1, 2021, the “10-year fishing ban” in the Yangtze River was fully launched. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and local governments at all levels strengthened the supervision of fishery law enforcement, scientifically carried out enhancement and releasing, established a monitoring system for aquatic biological resources, and strictly assessed the impact of fishing-related projects, paid close attention to the implementation of ecological compensation measures, and effectively achieved the great protection.
In the future, the resources team members of FFRC will continue to be the “Fish chasers in the Yangtze River” and provide scientific basis for the “Great Protection of the Yangtze River” and the “Ten-Year Fishing Ban” system.
