On July 28, the mid-term meeting of the key aquatic provenance research project “Selective Breeding of New Fast-growing Strains of Crayfish” hosted by Jiangsu Fishery Technology Extension Center was held at FFRC. Researcher Huang Chungui, Chief Scientist of the project, Researcher Xu Gangchun, Deputy Director of FFRC, Researcher Tang Yongkai, Deputy Chief of the Dept. of Bio-technology, and the project leader Associate Researcher Su Shengyan, attended the meeting.
At the meeting, Researcher Xu Gangchun introduced FFRC’s efforts in the selective breeding, ecological aquaculture of Crayfish varieties, talent team, and base construction, etc.. He said that FFRC would fully support the selective breeding of Crayfish. Researcher Tang Yongkai introduced the team’s achievements in functional genes, molecular marker development, and new variety breeding. Researcher Huang Chungui fully affirmed the work related to the selective breeding of Crayfish by FFRC, and suggested that all sides continue to give full play to their own advantages and promote the selective breeding results to shrimp farmers in Jiangsu Province as soon as possible, so as to provide strength for the high-quality development of Jiangsu Crayfish industry.
Researcher Huang Chungui and his team members also visited the Crayfish Selective Breeding Base in Yangshan, Wuxi. At present, the base has established a Crayfish conservation area, a broodstock breeding area, and a seed rearing area, which has the basic conditions for project research and development.
