From July 29 to 30, Seminar on Aquatic Animal Welfare Research and Practice was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Ge Xianping, Chief Scientist of the National Conventional Freshwater Fish Industry Technology System and Secretary of the Party Committee of FFRC, and Liu Bo, Post Scientist of Freshwater Nutrition and Feed of the National Shrimp and Crab Industry Technology System, Chief of the Dept. of Fishery Veterinary, Feed & Nutrition, attended the seminar.
At the seminar, Researcher Ge Xianping made an oral report on "The Status and Welfare Research Practice of Domestic Conventional Freshwater Fish Industry", which focused on the overview of domestic conventional freshwater fish industry, the research status of aquatic animal welfare, and the research practice of domestic conventional freshwater fish welfare, and introduced the research and exploration of FFRC in aquatic animal stress and welfare.
At the roundtable forum, Researcher Liu Bo and Professor Liu Ying of Zhejiang University and Dr. João L. Saraiva of the Marine Science Centre of Portugal, Zhang Dong of the East China Sea Fisheries Research Institute, and Assistant Professor Cai Wenlong of the City University of Hong Kong exchanged views on hot topics such as the concept of aquatic animal welfare, research on aquatic animal welfare at the scientific research level, and the formulation and evaluation of welfare standards for common cultured fish species.
The seminar is organized by Zhejiang University, with the theme of "Strengthening the Application of Animal Welfare Research and Promoting the High-quality Development of Aquatic Industry". More than 100 people from universities, research institutes and enterprises at home and abroad were attracted to attend the seminar.
