Director Xu Pao Visited the Yangtze River Fisheries Administration of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs for the Exchanges on the Fishing Ban and Aquatic Organisms Conservation in the Yangtze River

Recently, Director Xu Pao of FFRC led a group to visit the Yangtze River Fisheries Administration of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs for the exchanges on the fishing ban and aquatic organisms conservation in the Yangtze River. Yi Yanrong, Deputy Director of the Yangtze River Fisheries Administration of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, presided over the meeting, and Deputy Director Xu Sheng of FFRC, and chiefs of relevant departments of both sides participated in the meeting.

At the meeting, Deputy Director Yi Yanrong fully affirmed the preliminary work of the Yangtze River fishing ban and aquatic life conservation of FFRC, and put forward specific requirements for the follow-up work. First, it is necessary to actively carry out the monitoring of fishery resources and the Yangtze River fishing ban effect evaluation to ensure the accuracy, systematization and effectiveness of the monitoring data. Second, it is necessary to vigorously promote the implementation of the biodiversity conservation in the Yangtze River, speed up the construction of the Yangtze finless porpoise conservation center and protection base, expand the scale of the Yangtze finless porpoise ex situ group, and promote the long-term protection of rare and endangered aquatic organisms in the Yangtze River such as the Yangtze finless porpoise; third, it is necessary to carry out in-depth cooperation projects on the protection of aquatic life and fisheries in the Lancang-Mekong River, so as to enhance China’s voice in the protection of aquatic life and fishery cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong River; fourth, it is necessary to improve the scientific assessment of the environmental impact of fishery-related projects, and clarify the rational measures for ecological compensation and supervision

Director Xu Pao said that under the guidance of the Yangtze River Fisheries Administration, FFRC will continue to closely integrate with the national strategy of Yangtze River protection, form a joint force, and actively carry out the investigation and monitoring of Yangtze River fishery resources, rare species protection research, patrol supervision in key waters and environmental impact assessment of fishery-related projects, etc., accurately benchmark the needs of the Yangtze River ten-year fishing ban, further give full play to its professional expertise, and complete the work tasks arranged by the Yangtze River Fisheries Administration.
