On October 15, the 2024 China-Laos Fishery Administration Joint Law Enforcement & Enhancement and Releasing Activity was held in Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, Yunnan Province. Jiang Kaiyong, Director of the Yangtze River Fisheries Administration, MARA, attended the event and delivered a speech, and Bing Xuwen, Deputy Director General of FFRC, attended the event.
The theme of this event is “Drink the Water from the Same River, Protect the Mother River Together”, and a total of 770,000 fry such as Mystus wyckioides Chaux et Fang, Barbodes daruphani luosuoensis Wu et Lin, and Tortor sinensis were released. During the event, representatives of China and Laos jointly carried out patrol law enforcement. Since 2015, China and Laos have carried out a total of 16 joint law enforcement and stock enhancement and releasing activities, releasing a total of 4.235 million indigenous fish fry, making positive contributions to the protection of aquatic life and the sustainable development of fisheries in the Lancang-Mekong Basin.
After the event, representatives of relevant departments and bureaus of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Yunnan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Xishuangbanna Prefecture Government and other units went to the Lancang-Mekong Basin Aquatic Organism Introduction Center for investigation. During the meeting, Researcher Liu Kai from FFRC gave a special report on the progress of the implementation, existing achievements and the next outlook of the “Lancang-Mekong River Aquatic Biology Conservation and Fisheries Cooperation Project”, and the delegates had an in-depth discussion on the deepening of the Lancang-Mekong Water Ecology Cooperation.
