On November 1-2, the “7th Symposium on Processing Technology and Industrial Development of Conventional Freshwater Fish” hosted by the National Conventional Freshwater Fish Industry Technology System, organized by the Processing Department of the System and the College of Food Science & Nutritional Engineering of China Agricultural University was held in Beijing. Zhu Jian, Chief Scientist of the Conventional Freshwater Fish Industry Technology System and Researcher of Freshwater Fisheries Research Center, Researcher Ge Xianping, Chief Scientist of FFRC, Researcher Dong Zaijie, Scientist of Bighead Carp Germplasm Resources and Variety Improvement, Associate Researcher Miao Linghong, Scientist of Feed Raw Material Development and Quality and Safety, and other team members attended the meeting.
At the symposium, Chief Scientist Zhu Jian delivered an opening speech, emphasizing the significant industrial status of conventional freshwater fish as the major cultured freshwater species in China, and affirmed the contributions and achievements of the expert team of the processing Department in a number of key fields, and the next step is to enhance the adding-value of freshwater fish products through scientific and technological innovation, further enhance the intelligent level of processing technology, and enhance international competitiveness. On behalf of the university, Qian Xuejun, vice president of China Agricultural University, welcomed system experts and industry entrepreneurs, thanked everyone for their continuous support to China Agricultural University, and congratulated the successful organization of the symposium. Han Gang, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, emphasized the importance of green and sustainable development of the aquatic product processing industry, and put forward the necessity of strengthening the combination of technology research and industrial application. Zhu Jianxiang, a third-level consultant of the Bureau of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, proposed that fishery modernization and changes in market demand are the key driving forces for the development of aquatic product processing technology, and the close cooperation between industry, academia and research will further accelerate this process.
During the symposium, Researcher Ge Xianping made a conference report entitled “Overview of China’s Conventional Freshwater Fish Industry and the Development Direction of Green Aquaculture, focusing on the development of conventional freshwater fish industry and making suggestions for the development direction of green aquaculture. The symposium also invited Researcher Xie Shouqi, Scientist of the nutritional needs and feed of crucian carp, Researcher Chen Jie, Scientist of industrial economy, Professor Xu Yanshun, Scientist of fish processing, and Professor Liu Ru, Scientist of preservation and storage and transportation, to make reports on the symposium. Experts from the system and other experts, scholars, scientific researchers, and industry representatives in the field of aquatic product processing from all over the country discussed the latest progress and future development direction of conventional freshwater fish processing technology.
