From April 30th to May 1st, in order to implement the emergency notification of general office of the ministry of agriculture on strengthening the protection work of finless porpoise inYangtze river, freshwater fisheries research center, jointly with west of the Yangtze finless porpoise rescue center in Anqing city and Anqing normal university special investigation team carried out water ecological environment comprehensive inspection work in west Yangtze river. The comprehensive inspection work was conducted by assistant professor Liu Kai, from open water aquaculture laboratories of FFRC.
The main purpose of the visit is to get to know aquatic organisms and the ecological environment background of west Yangtze River, focus on the Yangtze finless porpoise habitat and ecological factors which may have an influence on their breeding and living. Except the natural environment conditions, the inspection also included social survey of surrounding areas from the socio-economy aspect. On a comprehensive and standardized basis of comprehensive investigation in west Yangtze River, our lab put forward a feasibility report on conservation of the Yangtze finless porpoise, and steadily move forward the species migration work and upgrade municipal nature reserve. All these work will help to promote finless porpoise protection work in downstream of Yangtze river.
