On 13th, May, Mr. YU Kangzhen, vice-minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs visited the FFRC selective breeding base of crayfish in Xuyi. Mr. ZHANG Xianliang, Director General of the Bureau of Fisheries, Mr. MA Yi, Director General of the Yangtze River Basin Fisheries Administration Supervision and Administration Office, Mr. ZHANG Jianjun, Deputy Director-general of Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Jiangsu Province, Mr. CHEN Zhichang, Mayor of Huai’an City and Prof. XU Pao, Director General of FFRC joined the survey.
Prof. XU Pao reported the progress and achievements of S&T in Xuyi Base. Aquatic animal breeding and farming fisheries comprehensive breeding S&T innovation team of FFRC has broken through key technical issues that restrict the industry development such as the creation of Procambarus clarkii germplasm, parent intensive cultivation, the fertilized eggs hatching in vitro and large-scale seed cultivation. The continuous control of a fully controlled crayfish seed balanced supply system has greatly improved the survival rate and growth specifications of adult crayfish, and achieved early and off-peak listing, providing strong technical support for the continuous development of China's crayfish breeding industry.
Meanwhile, the team introduced Cherax quadricarinatus, explored a new type of artificial incubation device, and break through the key technologies of in vitro incubation of fertilized eggs of Cherax quadricarinatus and large-scale artificial seedlings cultivation. They actively explored the new rice-crayfish farming model called "Two crayfishes and one rice", which made full use of the different growth characteristics of Procambarus clarkii and Cherax quadricarinatus. It means that on the basis of harvesting one season of Procambarus clarkii in advance, and then harvest another crop Cherax quadricarinatus, to achieve "two crops a year" rice and crayfish relay production, which improves the overall production efficiency, and vigorously promotes industry efficiency and farmers' income.
With the support of governments at all levels of the province, city and county, FFRC has cooperated with local leading agricultural industrialization enterprises to form a technical demonstration model of collaboration between government, industry, academia, and research, and the integration of education, reproduction, and promotion to help Xuyi agriculture Industrial structure optimization and rural revitalization.
Vice Minister YU Kangzhen successively investigated the parent breeding ponds, in-vitro incubation workshops, seed intensive breeding ponds, and the "rice and crayfish symbiosis" ecological breeding demonstration area. He also said that FFRC has achieved gratifying achievements in S&T research, and remarkable promotion for development of the industry. He hopes that FFRC will give full play to the role of the national team of fishery S&T and bell weathers, increase S&T research, explore new models of high-quality fishery development, accelerate the transformation of S&T achievements, lead the development direction of China's fishery S&T, improve the development level of the service industry, achieve high-quality development of fisheries, and make important contributions to the green development of the fishery industry in Jiangsu and even in China.
