On August 4, the “Freshwater Shrimp Germplasm Bank Construction of Jiangsu Province Agricultural Germplasm Resources Protection and Utilization Platform” project undertaken by FFRC passed the acceptance organized by the Jiangsu Science and Technology Resources Coordination Service Center. The acceptance expert group is composed of Zhang Zhaohui, researcher from Jiangsu Fishery Technology Extension Center, Ji Zhaoxun, investigator from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Jiangsu Province, and Professor Cheng Yanfen from Nanjing Agricultural University, etc.. Sun Xinglian, Deputy Director of Jiangsu Science and Technology Resources Coordination Service Center, Duan Lunchao, Head of Resource Management Department, Li Zongjun, Project Leader, Wan Yibing, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of FFRC, Zhu Jian, Chief of Scientific Research Division of FFRC, Fu Hongtuo, Chief of Fishery Genetic&Breeding Department and the main members of the project team participated in the acceptance meeting.
Researcher Fu Hongtuo, the project leader, reported on the implementation of the project. Through the implementation of this project, 60.5 mu of freshwater shrimp living body bank was built, a freshwater shrimp sample and DNA cryopreservation bank was established, and 341 tubes of DNA samples were stored; 121 samples of freshwater shrimp populations were collected and preserved, including 105 wild populations and 12 cultured populations. 4 new artificially created species (lines) ; the description norms and evaluation criteria for the germplasm resources of freshwater shrimp were formulated; the germplasm resource database of freshwater shrimp was established, and 134 population information was input; typical individualsof the new species (including hybrid freshwater shrimp "Taihu No. 1" and "Taihu No. 2") were selected, and 5398.5kg parents of new species (lines) were stored; 16125.5kg parents of new species were shared; a full-time management and operation team was formed.
After listening to the report, the expert group inspected the construction of the germplasm bank and reviewed relevant materials. The expert team believed that the project team submitted complete and standardized materials, the funds were put in place, and the use was reasonable and standardized. The objectives and tasks specified in the contract and various assessment indicators have been fully completed, and the expert group agreed to pass the acceptance.
The construction of the freshwater shrimp germplasm bank will help to better preserve the freshwater shrimp germplasm resources, avoid the loss of freshwater shrimp germplasm resources, provide excellent materials for the cultivation of fine species, and provide strong support for the development of the freshwater shrimp industry in our country.
