On September 10, Jiangsu Freshwater Shrimp Industrial Technology System held the on-site production and observation activities of "Freshwater Shrimp Taihu No. 2 + Special Feed" high-efficiency freshwater shrimp farming model in Shezhu Town, Liyang City. The expert group is composed of Gu Zhimin, director of Zhejiang Institute of Freshwater Fisheries, Jiang He, director of Fisheries Research Institute of Anhui Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Chen Huangen, deputy director of Jiangsu Fisheries Technology Extension Center. More than 150 people including Ge Xianping, secretary of the Party Committee of the Freshwater Fisheries Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, Wan Baolong, deputy director of the Liyang Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Guan Huasong, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Shezhu Town, and other representatives participated in the activity. The activity was hosted by Fu Hongtuo, the chief expert of Jiangsu provincial Freshwater Shrimp System and researcher of the Freshwater Fisheries Research Center.
Based on FFRC’s scientific research achievements of the new variety “Taihu No.2” and its special feed FFRC, combined with the integrated grass and shrimp farming, water quality biological control, etc. the "Freshwater Shrimp Taihu No. 2 + Special Feed" high-efficiency green culture model has been created. In 2020, this aquaculture model was carried out in Shezhu Town, Liyang City. There are 13 family farms in the townas the new model experimental demonstration site, with a total of 2850 mu of freshwater shrimp breeding ponds.
The expert group randomly selected 2 breeding sites and 5 ponds with an area of 35 mu. In the test pond, 1 kg/mu of egg-bearing shrimp was put into the test pond in late May, and commercial shrimp was launched in early and mid-August. A single shrimp cage caught an average of 1.34 kg of freshwater shrimp and an average size of 326 fish/kg. Experts fully affirmed the new model and agreed that the model is conducive to the stable supply of freshwater shrimp in the off-season market, with an obvious increase in production and income, and broad prospects for promotion and application.
