On July 7, the online opening ceremony of the first foreign aid training program-“Seminar on Aquatic Animal Health Management and Quarantine for Maritime Silk Road Countries” sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and undertaken by FFRC was held in FFRC .
At the opening ceremony, Liu Rutao, Vice President of Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO), MOFCOM, said that the Chinese government has always attached importance to fishery development cooperation with other developing countries, actively participated in international and regional fishery organizations, and promoted the strengthening of cooperation among fishery countries. This time, in the context of COVID-19, holding a seminar with the theme of aquatic animal health management and quarantine is of greater significance to global fishery development cooperation and governance system construction.
Xu Pao, Director of FFRC, briefly introduced the development of FFRC to participants, and said that there is an urgent need for countries to join hands to help each other through in-depth exchanges and cooperation in the fields of “aquatic animal health management and quarantine”. We can jointly make positive contributions to the healthy management of aquatic products and the healthy development of fisheries, and promote the construction of a fishery community with a shared future
Zhu Dan, Director of the Foreign Economic Cooperation Division, Wuxi Municipal Bureau of Commerce, said that Wuxi Municipal Bureau of Commerce is willing to make full use of the “Chinese-foreign fishery exchange platform” established by FFRC to promote more extensive cooperation with participant countries in the field of economy and trade and enhance traditional friendship.
Mr. Mphande Joseph, a senior fishery officer from the Ministry of Fisheries and Animal Husbandry of Zambia, made a speech as the representative of the participants. He first thanked the Chinese government for its support and assistance to developing countries under the epidemic, secondly thanked the Chinese government for funding and also thanked FFRC for the organization of this seminar.
As the first multilateral foreign aid training program held by FFRC in 2021, the 14-day seminar focused on “aquatic animal health management” and attracted 115 participants from 11 countries including the Philippines, Egypt, and Zambia to attend.
