FFRC held the “Seminar on Value-added Fishery Product Development and Market System Construction for Developing Countries”

On September 8, the “Seminar on Value-added Fishery Product Development and Market System Construction for Developing Countries”, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and organized by Freshwater Fisheries Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, was successfully launched. Ni Xilin, Chief of the Foreign Exchange and Cooperation Division of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and Zhu Jian, Member of the Party Committee of FFRC and Chief of the Division of Research, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. The opening ceremony was presided over by Jing Xiaojun, Chief of the Dept. of International Cooperation and Education of FFRC.

In his speech, Chief Zhu Jian said that the active development of the value-added fishery products processing industry is not only an important guarantee for adjusting the fishery industry structure, building a modern fishery system, promoting the transformation and upgrading of the fishery industry and developing modern fisheries, but also a promoting force for the sustainable development of the fishery economy and improving the competitiveness of the fishery industry.  

Chief Ni Xilin hoped that participants would further understand Jiangsu and Jiangsu agriculture through this seminar, promote Jiangsu agriculture in a wider field and at a higher level, so that more friends at home and abroad can pay attention to Jiangsu farmers and enter the rural areas of Jiangsu. , share development opportunities and create a better future.

Ms. Maria Elsa A. Malna, Chief of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, delivered her speech as the participant representative.

The seminar lasts for 21 days and attended by 34 participants from 7 countries: Kenya, the Philippines, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Thailand and Mauritius.

Expert representatives from the Dept. of Bio-technology, Dept. of Fishery Environment Protection, Dept. of Aquatic Biological Resources and other departments of FFRC were also invited to participate in the event.

In addition, the “Training Course on Green Aquaculture Technology for the Belt & Road Countries” started at the same time, and researcher Zhao Wei from the Foreign Affairs Office of Wuxi Municipal People’s Government attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. The training course lasts for 30 days and attended by a total of 33 participants from 10 countries including Mozambique, Kenya, the Philippines, South Africa, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Pakistan and Turkey. The training course will carry out a series of activities such as online lectures, cloud visit, group discussions, and country reports.
