Recently, a method for Coilia ectenes breeding in earthen ponds, invented by GU Ruobo, XU Gangchun, etc. was granted the national invention patent with the patent number ZL 201310361937.7.

The invention discloses a method for breeding Coilia ectenes in earthen ponds, including the outdoor breeding pond selection, intensive brooders cultivation, brooder and fry separation, and the early-stage culture of Coilia fries through the cultivation of food organisms such as rotifer and Cladocera. This method is simple, practical and economic, making possible the repeated used of brooders. The fries hatched in this way have a high survival rate and strong resistance to diseases. Meanwhile, using natural selection principle, the method can eliminate weak and sick fries, thus greatly improve the fry quality. In addition, sufficient feed for fries can be supplied by cultivating plankton using nutrient solutions such as glucose and amino acid, which ensures the rapid growth of the fries.
